California Young Reader Medal

CYRM Sign Ups

CYRM Sign Up

The California Young Reader Medal Program runs from October thru March each school year! This is our year-long program in the AOMS library to promote literacy. Students are required to reall all 3 nominated books and will vote on their favorite. Students, check with your English teacher to see if you will also earn extra credit.

How to Participate:

  • Students, you need to signup from your CUSD email account. Afterward, a permission slip will be emailed to your parents.
  • You will be added to the CYRM Google Classroom after parent permission is received. Once you verify you are in the Google Classroom, you will be allowed to check out the books from the AOM Library.
  • After you read each book, you need to take a short quiz about that book. Be certain to pay attention to the small details.
  • Once you have passed all 3 quizzes, you will be given a ballot to vote for your favorite book.
  • You get to come to a PARTY! In March we will have a pizza party in the library and talk about the books.

Important to know:

  • All the books are available to check out from the library on a first-come-first-serve basis. We do not put the books on hold because of the high demand and limited copies. You can get copies from the public library or buy them from your favorite book seller, also. You may check out 1 CYRM book at a time.
  • Check out periods for CYRM books is 2 weeks, so pick when you will have lots of extra time to read.
  • Sign ups start in September, but you will not be added to the Google Classroom until October.
  • The quizzes are open book; you may use post-its if you would like – don’t forget to carefully take them out. You get 2 changes to pass the quiz.
  • If your teacher does extra credit, it will be given in March when the program ends.

If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Otten in the library or email at kristina.otten@carlsbadusd.net
